Job's Paradox

Elina was commissioned to create two works for a collective exhibition titled "Questions to God. An Outlook on Job's Story". She chose to use the visual language of the German 1920s, a time when the dread of the impending disaster added to the despair of the one that had just taken place. Like many others who left Russia for Israel after their homeland invaded neighboring Ukraine, Elina found herself in a similar situation, in her personal interbellum. That is why her decision to use the wild expressive language of such artists as Otto Dix or Emil Nolde seems very logical. And unlike the biblical Job, who had no questions for God, artists caught between two wars ask — "Why?" — both then and now.
